Statute of the Photographic Collective “Opera Labirinto”
Introduction
We are photographers, friends, and enthusiasts of art and image.
Opera Labirinto was born from the need to escape decorative, reassuring, and self-referential photography. We live in a time saturated with images that leave no trace. The collective exists to produce images that endure, that disturb, that compel one to stop.
The labyrinth is not confusion: it is a system. Those who enter accept getting lost to see better.
Statute
Article 1 – Identity
Opera Labirinto is an independent photographic collective. It is not a brand, it is not a school, it is not a neutral container. It is a structure for visual research.
The nameOperaindicates an intentional act. TheLabyrinthindicates a non-linear path, made of choices, deviations, returns.
Article 2 – Vision
We believe in photography as a complex language, not as a product.
We reject:
- photography as a style exercise in itself
- aesthetics without thought
- the repetition of formulas useful for functioning by algorithms
We support:
- images that ask questions
- projects that build meaning over time
- photography that dialogues with other disciplines (art, literature, cinema, philosophy)
Article 3 – The Visual Labyrinth
Every project developed within the collective is aVisual Labyrinth.
A Visual Labyrinth:
- is born from a strong idea, not from a place or a trend
- accepts ambiguity as a value
- does not explain everything, but is never random
- can include error, repetition, silence
The audience is not guided: it is involved.
Article 4 – The Authors
Opera Labirinto is made up of authors, not executors.
Each member:
- maintains their artistic identity
- retains copyright over their productions
- works over the long term and on paths, not on immediacy
A common aesthetic is not required. A common posture is required: honesty, rigor, risk.
Article 5 – Method
The collective works for:
- projects, not for single images
- work cycles, not for constant output
- strict editing
Quantity is not a value. Consistency is.
Article 6 – Relationship with the Audience
Opera Labirinto does not seek immediate consensus.
The ideal audience:
- is curious
- is willing to slow down
- accepts not to understand immediately
We do not produce images to please everyone. We produce images for those who are willing to get lost.
Article 7 – Ethics
The collective rejects:
- the spectacularisation of pain
- the instrumental use of subjects
- the falsification of context without awareness
Opera Labirinto can portray people in public spaces without direct permission, in compliance with current regulations.
Such images are usedexclusivelyfor artistic, cultural, and visual research purposes.
There is no provision for any commercial, promotional, or advertising use of images depicting identifiable individuals.
The collective acknowledges the centrality of the dignity of the subjects portrayed.
At any time, upon notification or direct contact, Opera Labirinto commits to assess and, if requested, proceed with the removal of images from its digital channels (website, social media, online archives).
Every project must be defensible, not justifiable.
Article 8 – Evolution
This statute is not a cage. It is a provisional map.
Opera Labirinto is an evolving organism. If it stops changing, it stops existing.
